don’t color outside the lines
           that’s where the monsters are

don’t read between the lines
           sharp teeth hide there

don’t cross the line
           no one comes back

don’t line your mind with dreams
           they shatter into deadly shards

Melissa Ridley Elmes holds an MFA in Writing from Lindenwood University, where she also teaches in the undergraduate English Studies program. Her poetry and prose have appeared in The Blotter, Ink Quarterly, The World of Myth, and other print and web venues, and her first book of poetry, Arthurian Things: A Collection of Poems, won the World of Myth open contract challenge and was published by Dark Myth Productions earlier this year.
