My Friend Too

My Friend Too

written by: Marie Johnson-Ladson

We started out on two different journeys in life, met each other along the way and ended up in the last chapter of life together

We were related by marriage
And
You were like a big sister to me
But
My friend too

We met when we were young
It seemed like yesterday
But
It was long ago

You had started your family
And
I was just starting mine

Our children grew
They were related
And
Friends too

We enjoyed talking in person and on the phone
It was before texting and social media like friends do today

We shared each other’s ups and downs
We went to family functions together
And
Did many other things, too

You were a role model, encourager, supportive
And
A mentor too

You were kind and patient
And
Had a pleasing personality which was calm and warm spirited
And
Felt by all

You loved your family and friends and was willing to go 100% for them
And
They knew it too

You were unique and young at heart
We had great times, enjoyed many things
And
I wish we could do more

You know I started to call you the other day
But
Realized you were not there anymore

I know life doesn’t last forever
And
I will have to continue on without you

I will not forget you because I will hold on to these special memories
But
I will miss my friend too!
