Shells – A Pantoum

Shells

A Pantoum

written by: Lois Perch Villemaire

What is the fascination with shells?
Those crevices where sea animals once lived.
A search for perfection among the cracked and broken
Threatened by the force of tidal waves.

Those crevices where sea animals once lived
Becoming a haven for tiny fish seeking shelter
Threatened by the force of tidal waves
Mollusks move slowly in spiral shapes.

Becoming a haven for fish seeking shelter
Hiding from predators in a quest for survival.
Mollusks move slowly in spiral shapes
Never shedding until their hour of death.

What is the fascination with shells?
Those crevices where sea animals once lived
A search for perfection among the cracked and broken
Threatened by the force of tidal waves.
