Sanu Sharma is a Nepali novelist, short story writer, poet and lyricist. She has published several novels and short story collections, and numerous lyrical works. Her prose sheds light on the struggles of women, girls, and marginalized communities, tackling overlooked familial and societal issues, while her poetry and lyrics capture universal emotions. Her short story collection Ekadeshmaa received widespread acclaim and was shortlisted for the prestigious Madan Puraskar in 2018. Several of her novels and stories have been adapted into audio and visual formats, and her ghazals and lyrics have been set to music by various composers and performed by renowned singers.

...The little blue jay landed on the windowsill just as Frank’s heart skipped another beat. He looked at her delicate colours and the way she flitted back and forth along the white peeling ledge. She reminded him so much of his wife Emily, as she skipped along the white sandy beach all those years ago.

Emily lay asleep on their bed. Frank watched her from his favourite window seat and smiled. Thirty years had passed and she had remained his destiny.

As the bright morning sunlight burst through the top half of the windowpane and landed on her ashen face, its warmth stirred her from her slumber and she extended her thin arm to block out its penetrating rays...
