The Coroner’s Wife

The coroner’s wife
sleeps tonight alone
the brownstone
her husband alight
with the stars at night
it’s just a way of life
Awake, she’d sit
up, unaware
the psychological warfare
playing
conveying
images that would be transmit
He was where tonight
shot, stabbed, choked
to death, unprovoked
carnage on the asphalt
blood drops
on his shoes
The coroner
sits up — down tonight
in his office
desk light off — on
in the distance mourning — morning
breaks
time never awaits
