The Long Night

The Long Night

I can’t stay awake
depleted, mundane
tired, explain
running the same.

It was quite the day
those squeaky wheels
from isle to isle
peanut butter ripple.

Soft goosedown steps
the wheels slow them down
they turn to look
A giggle escapes.

Amusement around
I can’t close my eyes
the buzzing returns
sugars perhaps.

The day never ends
lingering thoughts
the observing moon
watching me close.
