The Magician’s Trickery

The Magician’s Trickery

written by: Tamara Yancosky

Beneath the beaded marquee,
the crowd sways in languid ease,
minds swept clean
by the sentimental breeze.
The Magician, worry-free,
spices the earth with trickery;
sunshine is eternal, they believe,
throwing cares to the withered reeds.
The Magician’s smile is drenched in tease;
through the daylight, darkness bleeds.
Each of their own will seizes a trapeze,
Relinquishing their soul for free
in exchange to bear the Magician’s Disease.
Now, flesh rots and is deceased;
inner freedom and choices cease.
The damned plead for release
from their new Owner’s decree.
Yet, at the end of their Gifted Lease,
they each realize they purposely and repeatedly
chose the Beast.
