The Test

The vibration deep within my chest
brings to life a memory
I thought was already laid to rest –
Of horror, smiles and each day
that puts me through a test.

The belief that I could pass it
with flying colours and walk away;
By noon my teeth will be grit
and my thoughts will have no room to stay.
Overcome by a darkness
that puts my mind into shadow.
Light growing ever so less
until I no longer know….
