There Was Once A Time

There Was Once A Time

written by: Talat Aafreen

There was once a time
The sky was rainbow filled.
Springy feet danced askew
Music made the heart lift.
As life dealt its blows,
The rainbows fled,
The music waned,
Blue and purple
Bruises appeared
Some buried deep within.
Even though I can’t feel the pain
Sometimes
When I rub a sore spot
I wonder
When I got this hurt,
This pain
Now a way of life.
The sky is a wide expanse of blue
Across a broad, hard earth.
No dance,
No more the music,
Only a long endless road
That I have to take
I have to carry on.
