Women Warriors

Women Warriors wear red
for all the days we bled. A red cape
of honor behind those we empower.

Women Warriors wear orange scarves
sailing through the wind brightening
the dimmest of journeys.

Women warriors wear yellow to
light jewels of the sun, to connect us with
the cord of life.

Women warriors wear green for
abundance and phytoncides from the forest
to open hearts.

Women Warriors wear blue for
compassion deep as the sea,
sending tears to create a well.

Women Warriors wear purple hats!
They’re whimsical, wise, bright,
peaceful, and powerful!

Women warriors show their
true colors of rainbows rising
from the midnight storm.

Women warriors are stronger
than a speeding bullet,
Superman or Batman.

Women Warriors wear clothes on land
and none in heaven where
we can shed our cloak at last.

Women warriors of land, sea and
the heavens giving hope,
setting us free to eternity.

  2. Cindy, as I read your inspiring poem, I was reminded of the Suffragettes who fought and died for the civil rights of women. They made speeches, marched, went on hunger strikes in prison, and threw themselves in front of racehorses.

    The irony is that it is not just women who benefit from gender equality. Statistics have shown that children’s academic success is best predicted by the academic accomplishments of their MOTHERS! The men I worked with felt no stigma for teaching elementary school. The male nurses who cared for me in the hospital were not deterred by gender stereotypes. Society as a whole benefits from having equal opportunities for everyone.

    Bravo, Cindy, for reminding us that the civil rights we enjoy today were won by the struggle of women and the men who supported their efforts! ❤️

      I’m sorry my response didn’t get to you as I tried to write on. I’m so appreciative of your words which are so important in the plight as woman. I so agree with you and I do hope these stereotypes will disappear and the world will wake up. Equal opportunity for everyone is vital.

  3. Cindy, as I read your poem I saw all the women warriors I travelled with throughout my many decades of life so far. I saw them in their many colors, felt their power and strength, and smiled reading the entire poem.

    You, my friend, also come to mind as I think of boldly glowing and growing and striving to lead others to full expression of power and grace!

    I appreciate how you are using your voice to lift us all!

  4. While it seems it was unclear how much the movement helped in women’s voting, I can’t help but think it made a huge impact and it definitely raised awareness. They also seemed to have to take more drastic measures to get their point across. In my personal post I added the song that was out of character for me with woman fighting. I think it speaks to feeling so powerless at a time when we are in such disarray in our world on so many levels which is so disturbing. “We have come a long way baby” and we have so much more to do.
    I love that statistic and the male teachers and nurses of the world are everyday heroes and we are interdependent on each other. Thank goodness I had a husband that came home from work everyday at 2:30 and the kids had the benefit of a hands on dad.
