It is what it is.
An idiom.
Reply to an unanswerable question.
An unresolvable situation.
Words used to complete sentences and thoughts.
A quote repeated over and over again;
by young and by old, by scholars and fools.
What “is it” I ask and what does “it” mean?
We know that “it is” for so rarely we see,
five little words again and again.
The author unknown, unsure are we all.
Some doubt will remain when faced and without,
something better instead.
You’ll hear yourself say,
“It is what is is”, with a little disdain.
