Vincent van Gogh (The Mulberry Tree)

Vincent

Vincent

written by: Jeff Flaig

Someone said something behind my back, a whisper,
Perhaps about a painting or a song.
I think his name was Vincent
He was older than I could imagine
And said things no one understood
All the while, behind those colorful eyes, he cried
He expressed life in a language hard for us to see
And when he didn’t say goodbye, he just gave up
Left all the children, the flowers, the night sky, behind
I didn’t know why he painted such things
There is more to a soul than just a name
And more to a masterpiece than just colors and weeping
Some can never be forgotten, no matter how small
No matter how big the tree planted in this world
After all those, these years, such a person still requires a tear
Something simple, something of considerable value
And still, he could never reach beyond a moment of sadness
Like his tree standing throughout time, and we all bear that fruit
