Beholder
written by: Jose A. Tovar
In the eyes of the beholder
I saw the heavenly destiny of mankind
(And the earthly origin of womankind)
In the hands of the artist
I touched the clay of carnal creation
(And the temptation for fatal perfection)
In the ears of the philosopher
I heard many times the truth of it all
(And every time the lies of it all)
In the nose of the hunter
I smelled the scent of free spirit poets
(And the decay of tyrannical nation-states)
In the mouth of the orator
I spoke brave Cicero’s prophetic words
(And sensual Sappho’s nocturnal lyrics)
In the heart of the lover
I felt young Eros’ inescapable arrow
(And rosy Aphrodite’s perilous grasp)
In the mind of the thinker
I imagined vividly the world with you
(And the world without you—I could not)
