Taking The Solitary Walk

Taking The Solitary Walk

written by: TM Arko

If I had never taken a solitary walk
I would have never
Heard the song of a thrush among the dusky woods
Or the distant sound
Of the ducks upon the silver lake

If I had never taken a solitary walk
I would have never
Seen two squirrels at play
On Christmas day
The twisted branches
and evergreen boughs beneath my feet

If I had never taken the solitary walk
I would have never
Beheld two crows waddling forward
through the bright green grass
Never
Would I have felt the cold kiss
of winter upon my face

If I had never taken the solitary walk
I would have never
Looked up to see
The gulls in dancing flight against
The lustrous clouds of grey
And my life would be
Incomplete

Completion
Completion
Is what I need

To take that solitary walk
Away
From blaring televisions
Far from the madding crowd
Completion of the body
Completion of the mind
Completion of the soul

Take the solitary walk
Listen to the hymn
Of silence

Take the solitary walk
Before the noise
Of death
Returns once more
