In Isolation

In Isolation

written by: SARMISTHA GUPTA

When the mind is transfixed
And the mist drapes the hollow face
I close my eyes within
Blanket of hair swims across my back
As drops of sweat grip my bosom
Inner peace sucked in the vortex of grim times
Fire flies embellish the venomous pollen
That have dusted my soul with the sands of distance
Hands cringe in shimmering fear
As they dip themselves in folds of masquerading robes
Breathing is fantasy
And masks omnipresent rob men of impressions sans feelings
Faces are not the artist’s canvas
But dimmed eyes seeking no redemption
Barren realm of tragedy feeds on hunger profound
And the fevered brain roams the pale streets of breathless whispers
