A Moment in Time

written by: Vidya Venkataramanan

As twilight dimmed the sunbeams,
Dusk stole in,
Unannounced,
Early lurking lanterns
tried to outglow the
Last traces of sunlight,
As my footsteps faltered
On beholding
A quiet beauty!

Chancing upon an
Indian Laburnum tree,
In full bloom,
I paused,
To catch my breath!

She stood by the wayside,
Arms akimbo,
Trying to scare away
Noisy children,
Who had long since been whisked away by homework and anxious mothers!

Unable to change her stance,
For I had got her glance,
I stifled a giggle at
Her frozen expression!

Furious that I had caught her
At her naughtiest,
She couldn’t lower her branches,
Or her expressions,
To belie the confusions!
Winking at her dismay,
I patted her trunk
In the best possible way!

And the poet in me,
Jotted away,
About the Laburnums
So called tantrums!
Caught between
The road and the wall,
She made history
Between the pages
Of a story,
For better or for verse
For just bring
The Tree!

Musings on a walk,
In the time between, day and night
With flowers in between!
