Don’t Let It Win
written by: Jane Bradshaw
It dwells
Deep deep down inside
Insidious and evil
Peeking out through slits
Don’t lie awake
But don’t let it in either
Close your heart
Bolt the doors
It’s still there
Pulsing pulsing greedily
Trying to tear the fabric
Between your worlds
Keep moving forward
Don’t let fear dictate
What could be there
Slippery as a snake
It’s getting closer
Bang bang it beats
Against the membranes
That separate you
Underneath your skin
Translucent and pale
Beats the heartbeat
Of a fierce warrior
Jane hails from the distant shores of Darwin, in the Northern Territory of Australia. She has lived there all her life and has raised three young Adults. After 7 years as a Loans Officer and 6 years as a Rates Officer Jane found herself at university, studying to be a Primary School Teacher. Now in her nineteenth year of teaching, she has taken on the challenge of being the Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Teacher at her school (Special Education). Jane has been a part of a poetry writing group for over six years and a short story writing group for over five years. Her passion for writing began in high school, and she continues to write because it is a deep intrinsic part of who she is. She has been published in five Anthologies, and on a few writing platforms. One day she hopes to have her own collection of poems, and a novella published.
