Groceries, poetry written by James Gabriel at

written by: James Gabriel

the taut
plastic handles
cut into her fingers

a man loaded
her groceries
into the trunk

the hallway
is longer
than she recalls

stopping at
the door to dig
for her keys

she sets the bags
down and sees
the creases

on her fingers,
in her skin
fade away

but not
as quickly
as they once did
