hope is
the best liar
you’ll ever meet,
it builds you up
before pulling the rug
out from under your feet
and steals your breath
as you crash to your knees
and leaves you there
with tear-stained cheeks,
but hope is a glutton
and always comes back for more,
and picks you up
from your spot on the floor
and ignites a fire
inside your heart
to bring you back
right to the start
