My Skeletons

My Skeletons

written by: Jenny Morelli

There are skeletons in my closet
just rotting from neglect.
They don’t know who they are
or were or can be,
so inside, they simply slump
maybe sleeping,
maybe waiting
for some big and grand shake;
inside, they’re maybe safer
than what this world’s become,
which is why I leave them in the dark
and have for way too long.
There are skeletons in my closet
just rotting from neglect.
They don’t know who they are,
and I’m afraid to tell them,
for fear they’ll smother me
before I can trap them in my pen
and write them into existence,
for the skeletons in my closet
are all the random thoughts
I haven’t had a chance
or inspiration
or motivation
or courage
to share with the world,
but I love them just the same
and want to keep them safe
until the right time
the right place
the right people
come along
for me to introduce them all.
