New of the Year

New of the Year

written by: Dr. Humeira Jawed

Across, around…coming through,
With herds of cheers and clang.
It’s you again, all happy and new,
Back, with a bang.

Look at you, your celebrations,
The glamor, those glittery quirks –
Countless notions and emotions,
Fly high with fireworks.

It’s that time of the year,
An oddly timeless feel.
A side of me lauding here,
Another part wants to heal.

I’ll pace up as you speed,
Or tag along with better prep.
With hasty hopes, ambitions in need…
Hope you watch your step.

I’d greet you with tidy resolutions,
The new, wishfully readjusted,
Freshly carpeted over old ones,
The undone, done and dusted.

Let’s talk over a cup of contemplation,
Sips of bitter loss and grief,
Gulps of sweet gains and exhilaration,
A reflection of past bittersweet.

Lost in upcoming memories,
Some you plan, some I’ll process.
Promising days to come at ease,
With prayers, God bless.

The newness of the new year,
Brings rays of life to an aged day.
My dawn is new, it’s coming near,
It’s just a midnight away!
