The Deafening Din of the Nighttime Agitation

My friend so and so, she is feeling Suicidal… Again!
My husband so and so, he is feeling Suicidal… Again!

Thus begins this nightly ritual
So and So and So and So
Talking endlessly on the phone about
Such and Such

Life’s ebbs and flows
The very high highs and the very low lows
About how life has done them oh so wrong.
How they listen intently to each other in an effort to keep strong

Schizophrenia
The elephant in the room
Causing so much strife
It’d make anyone want to crawl back into the womb

Can you hear that?
Can you see this?
Or maybe we’re just other crazy misfits

How is one to exist
When all the senses are constantly bombarded
By things that simply do not exist

20 plus years
and he still hears
that very real voice telling him
if life is so hard
why doesn’t he just hang himself?

30 plus years
and her visions are very real.
that aliens live amongst us
and only she is privy to such private detail

And so to ensure a restful sleep,
Handfuls of prescribed antipsychotics, antidepressants,
And the occasional sleeping pill
Are eagerly consumed in a gigantic heap

Taking so many medications you’d think would make one very ill.
These however help one not to feel
So that the next day everything will feel much more chill.

These medications continuously heal the wounded brain
Burdened with the grind of the daily strain

Sleep well So and So and So and So
Know you are loved by all of us Though!

Tomorrow awaken to a brand new day. . . Again
Tomorrow awaken to try this thing called life. . . Again

Tomorrow awaken with lots to say
To the Friends, Family and Community
Who hold you closer day by day.
