The Descent

The Descent

written by: Matthew Sweatt

Steps, one after another
Taken for granted
That nothing will stand in the way
Hundreds upon thousands upon millions
Stop
Crossroads
To make one weary
To make one question
To be ashamed of taking for granted
Steps
A deal struck, a real bargain
Steppes on top of the world
But in Hell
Not what it seemed, but you were warned
Lectured at length scolded even
Ah, but don’t we know everything
Of course we don’t
But you will… Because the Steppes
Oh those dreaded, shift-pitching
Steppes
These steps are now descending
Down
No more forever scorned, forever
We were, You were
Warned
