The gift of me

written by: paeansunplugged

I gift unto myself

the gift of me

to be who I want to be

and not what others

expect from me

to never carry

any burden of expectation

nor the sorrow of broken dreams

to dance in the meadows of today

and dip my feet in now’s stream

so that I can open

the invisible heavy chest

I always carry close to me

to release anger, fear, guilt and envy

and gaze at my reflection

in the eye and see the real me

unadorned and unencumbered

stripped of all the layers

that hid my soul

and thus bring joy unto others

when I am truly me.

I am a stay at home mother and do freelance writing for school textbooks.
