Autumn On The Tree Of Life

Autumn On The Tree Of Life

written by: Aaron Marchant

I’m an autumn leaf on this tree so tall
As much a part of the tree as all
I stretched my fingers in the spring
and waved to welcome summer in

First to wake each bright new morn
storing life for leaves unborn
Enduring when the heavens weep
sheltering young shoots still asleep

That they may know a spring as free
as that which was bequeathed to me
And trust in turn, themselves defend
a tree of life that knows no end

I’m an autumn leaf on this tree so tall
as much a part of the tree as all
My purpose done, I am content
and glad may fall without lament
