Sleepless
written by: James Yesley
The sun rises again, as it does each day.
A tragic welcome through the blinds.
I’ve drank half of this bottle, yet sleep won’t take me.
Too many thoughts run through my head.
There are regrets and women and bills unpaid.
The sun still continues to climb.
Another scorcher, the oscillating fan lies to me.
Another shot, another woman, more regret.
They’ve all gotten me where I am today.
Building blocks, stepping stones.
Things long forgotten, they pop back in to say “hello”.
We are meant, you and I. For what I cannot say.
These thoughts, I’ll hold them down with a drink.
And sleep the day away…
