Casing The Batter

Casing The Batter

written by: Ken Gosse

She played the field and thought he was a catch—
unlike all those before, a perfect match.
A bunt had sent him on his way, not out;
well worth the chance, sometimes the quickest route
to head toward rounding third so you can score
then get back to the batter’s box for more.
However, stealing home when not on base
precluded chances to win, show, or place.
A foul so foul, as ump, she made the call,
“You’re Out! Ejected.” She could play hard ball.
