Clockwork

Clockwork

She carries in her womb,
A tiny life,
Nurturing every day,
Carrying with her throughout her life,
Shielding through scary nights,
Strengthening after each fall,
Celebrating occasional highs,
A mother dotes on her kid,
All the while playing many other roles.

Likewise,
In her vast expanse,
Each life,
Tiny or Brobdingnagian,
Obscure or obsolete,
Mother Earth carries with her,
All of us, all the while,
Through her multiple rotations and revolutions,
Ensuring no harm befalls,
Each and every day,
Year after year,
Like a clockwork.
