From Red to Black

There are spiders everywhere
In my lungs
spinning webs
casting away each breath
I can no longer breathe
There is a man talking on his phone below my balcony
telling his daughter it will be all right
A spider crawls over my leg
up to my throat
the music in my ears is loud
and I can no longer hear myself breathing
no longer feel it
I’ve stopped breathing
The music is vulgar
but the man is shouting
“IT WILL BE ALL RIGHT”
I don’t believe him
his tone would be softer
The spiders have made a home beside my heart
with every beat they constrain it more
until the red is webbed in white
and everything turns black
