 Full Moon in Tillyría 2021

I am Selene, the omniscient moon. Discreet, unassuming by day; imperious, imperial, by night. I am the pale lady who has watched civilisations arrive with fanfares and wars. Observed them grow; seen cities, industries, cultures thrive. And watched as they teetered, tottered, tumbled into oblivion. But not here, high above this busy island, where my white light sparkles over mountains and forests unlived in, unloved in, unfarmed in, unseen. Until now, I have watched hikers, bikers, campers, day-trippers, litter-droppers, TikTokers, bird watchers, bloggers follow a metalled road; serpentine, snaking through rock falls, littered with loose limestone.
Night falls: my Queendom, my realm, my domain. On a chilly April night, I illuminate clearings alive with spring flowers. Far from the roads, small groups of mouflon reclaim ancient habitats, owls hunt, and foxes scavenge picnic debris until the year they did not come. Those invaders; repulsed, kept away, isolated in their cities, masked, dying. Leaving cold forests to me.
