How I Affirm That This is All Real

Barefoot with a glass of water in my hand,
I stand by our dining table and curl
my left big toe against the wooden floor—hard!
—and feel the solidity rise and press back
my gelatinous flesh until it meets
the phalangeal density
to steady me.
