I Love My Country
written by: Daniel Singfuri Yohanna
like the waist beads of Yerwa
that whispered to me at night
when crickets and birds chirped
in sweet symphony, I love my country.
I love my country
like the thighs of Sambisa,
A home where a story resides
before militias invaded its glory.
I love my country
like the ribbon lips
of Aisha the Kanuri girl
that resides among the people of Maiduguri…
I love my country, I am
Ready to protect it from hurricane,
Ready to defend it like a monster,
Ready to give my life for its cause just to please Aisha.
