I forgot to gaze up at the moon
I forgot to smile at the stars

I forgot to close my eyes
I forgot to feel the breeze

I forgot
Because forgetting eased the pain

I forgot
Because embracing pierced my soul

I forgot
Because hoping strangled peace

In vain
I tried to forget the unforgettable
I tried not to hurt inside
I tried not to call your name

In vain
I dared to love

Because loving you
Was worth being vulnerable
