Like a Phoenix

This had been all that I’ve known,
But time’s cruel hand made things turn
And now I must figure out how to
Live anew with a new face to wear.
Suppose I am like a phoenix,
Unearthing myself from my ashes
With my wings fragile and new,
Clumsy at my sides with feathers
Not yet forming over my naked flesh.
Even if I am reemerging from the womb,
I fear the new life that I must face in the unknown.
