My Path Runs Ahead of Me and My Plans
Canto Four

School colors, mascots, and college prep
You’ve got four years
They said
Four years
To get it right
Not fair, I thought
Not enough time, I insisted
Not possible, I felt
How can my childhood
Already be over, I questioned
I’m not a child
But I’m not an adult
My mind fractures
Heart breaks
I scrape through the pieces, looking for my future
Play ball, study, and be a friend
Calculate, postulate, and analyze
Read, write, listen, and speak
Do all these things
And still find time to discover who you are
In what do I find
The willpower to go on
Who places the emerald light
Upon my shaking finger
When I’m lost in fear
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
Part 4 of my autobiographical series of poetry.
Benjamin R Bray
Writing my way through life's journey; finding inspiration in the people who make me feel like I deserve to be here. In their unconditional love that I find what little strength I feel I have to face this overwhelming world. Through my writing I find escape in expression of anything I'm feeling at the moment the pen makes contact with the paper.
