Numbin’ Thorns

I’m collecting tears looking out a stained trembling window
The cat sits in stars looking proper, I’m here with God
and I’m wearing perfume for no one, in a sundress
covered in manta ray designs and trying to look fancy in prayer pose.
I’m picking at the roses from an unwanted lover,
and my eyes still see you. His young heart couldn’t mature fast enough, and yours could never slow down to appreciate each beat.

Numbin’ Thorns, they prick and poke
I am just ruining new cloth, new bandages.
I might as well just be nude and cradled in my pain.
Heading down new paths that few dare to evoke. I just want to run in place until you fade.
How can I sugarcoat this war?
Looking through that window,
these streets, invisible with only wind howling.

I walk away with a steady stride, drunken mind.
With each step, I’m looking to be fortified.
Thorns, dig deep into my flesh.
Tell me to refuse to give in to the brutal caress.
Spinning in circles, just spinning in circles until any light sashays in.
Just severing light, cohesive with each prick and sting.

Numbin’ Thorns looking for a new soul to drive away the hearse.
Some crows with blue wings, I need the symbol,
I need the baby’s promise.
Numbin’ Thorns they test my will.
On the other side I want to find. I want to find you, the real you.

Not the man who’s dancing foolishly with the scantily clad Jans and Janes.
Letting the thorns dig in deeper, piercing my skin.
I’m not afraid, for I know I’ll win in the end.
Whether it’s you, or it is your unraveling.
I’m not naive and growing more aware.
