Have you ever felt?
Strangely distant from yourself
From each and every part
Of your anatomy
You!
The surgeon
Of your own surgery
Spinal anesthesia
And you talk
Clinically
About liver and intestine
Dispassionate about the water in the lungs
Feeling no pain
At what the world injected into you
No remorse
At what you did to the world either
Marauding
Crushing flowers
Or people
Or both
Saying I love you randomly
Convinced that the ones
We say them to
Are also observers
Living outside
Of their hearts and lungs
Vandana Kumar
Vandana Kumar is a bon vivant who loves travelling, working with young minds and exploring creative possibilities beyond the ordinary. She has done her masters in History from ‘Lady Shri Ram College’ – ‘University of Delhi’ and her Diplôme from the ‘Alliance Française de Delhi’.
She is a middle school teacher and also translates for various publishing houses and corporates. Also she is an active member of various quiz clubs across Delhi. Her various passions include singing, playing the piano, composing music and participating in local music competitions. She contributes poems regularly to online magazines and has been published in a couple of anthologies. One of her poems was shortlisted and published by the “All India Poetry Society”. She describes herself as a dreamer…a wanderer and a certified incurable romantic…the romantic moorings worsened with all her fancy French studies. Poetry for her is her stress buster – her flight of fancy – and strangely – what keeps her rooted too.
