Bones Waiting

Bones Waiting

written by: Duane L Herrmann

Bones of little bodies
lying in the ground
waiting, wondering
when will respect,
recognition come
that their death
was criminal
and carried out
ruthlessly
by those intent
on extermination
of Native “other,”
and children died –
forced from homes
and tribal love.
Boarding school burials
all too common –
finally source of shame.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Archeological work is now being done to search for unmarked graves of children buried out of sight.
