Go higher
These words of my friend did inspire
Me to pause, reflect, and be wise;
To not react or criticize,
But to elevate my thoughts and rise
Above hurt, anger, and lies.
Go higher,
Walk the narrow road,
The one where kindness freely flows.
Take a breath,
For my soul yearns for life, not death-
Needing not to defend, engage, personalise, or explain
Nor trade pain for pain.
Go Higher
Love one another, we are told;
A lesson from days of old
Still resonates today in the heart
And is a gracious place to start
To mend the bridges that are torn
And greet a hopeful dawn.
I have always loved reading and storytelling and joined a small writers group in 2023 where I have had the opportunity to explore different subjects by writing a short piece or poem on a weekly topic. I am very much enjoying my writing journey so far and am very grateful to Spillwords for giving fledgling writers like myself the platform to submit stories and poems.
